Risk table for people without cardiovascular disease - People with diabetes
Indications for cholesterol-reducing pharmaceutical therapy
To be used for people without cardiovascular disease (CVD) but with one or more of the following:
- a member of the immediate family aged < 60 years has coronary heart disease (CHD),
- diabetes mellitus,
- hypertension, whether treated or not.
Not to be used for people with manifest CVD or with a cholesterol level of > 8 mmol/L and/or triglyceride level of > 4 mmol/L
How to use the table
- Determine the risk factors for your patient. Calculate the total cholesterol/HDL-cholesterol ratio.
- Calculate the absolute risk of developing CHD in the next 10 years from the table.
- >Red: indication for treatment with a statine.
- Orange: indication for treatment with a statine, if a member of the patient's immediate family aged < 60 years has CHD.
